Short answer
Visa application centres (VACs) advertise extra paid services heavily on their websites.
- Most are optional, and you can apply without them.
- Paying for Added Value Services does not make approval more likely.
- Know what you are paying for before you pay.
Which charges are not optional?
You always pay UKVI the visa fee. A six-month UK visit visa costs £135 (from 8 April 2026).
Some centres also charge just to attend. This is often called a “User Pays” fee. Copenhagen charges €93, and the premium centre in Tripoli, Lebanon charges £114. Many standard appointments carry no attendance fee, and many more centres charge one than the two examples here.
Check which type of appointment you have booked before you pay anything.
What are the optional extras, and what do you get?
Self-uploading your documents is free. Everything below is about convenience, not a stronger application. Prices seen in 2026 vary by centre:
| Service | What you actually get | Typical cost |
|---|---|---|
| Upload help or document checking | Staff help you scan and upload your documents and check they are complete and legible. They do not assess your evidence. | £40 to £70 |
| UKVI account help | Staff help you create or complete your online UKVI account. | £13 to £35 |
| Premium Lounge | A private waiting area with staff support. It can include upload or checking help. | £70 to £106 |
| Prime Time | An appointment outside the centre’s normal opening hours. | £30 to £130 |
| Flexi Appointment | You arrive at any time within a set window, with no fixed slot. | About £106 |
| Mobile visit | Staff come to your home to take your biometrics. | £180 to £272 |
If you book a Premium Lounge, check whether it already includes upload or document checking, so you don’t pay twice.
Document checking is not UKVI judging your evidence. Only the decision-maker at UKVI does that.
Priority (£500) and Super Priority (£1,000) are different. They are UKVI services, not VAC extras, and are charged per person on top of the visa fee. They are available only in some places and on some routes. They speed up the decision (about 5 working days for Priority, and by the end of the next working day for Super Priority), but they still don’t make approval more likely.
Does it differ by country, and is it worth it?
Yes. Large hubs such as the UAE often offer the widest choice. A small country may offer little beyond a standard appointment, or you may have to travel abroad to get more.
Some applicants report feeling pushed to buy extras at the centre, so decide before you arrive. Paying for comfort, convenience or reassurance can be a fair choice, as long as you make it knowingly.

FAQ
Do Added Value Services improve my chances of a visa?
No. They change how you apply, not how UKVI decides.
Can I pay at the centre?
Often yes, but online prices may be lower.
Can I say no?
Yes. Decline anything you did not book.
Is document checking at the VAC the same as UKVI checking my application?
No. The staff are not the decision-makers.
